Capture Attention with an MMS Message

Show Notes

  • A text with a picture is called an MMS or a multimedia message service.
  • When sending a text, you can include more content in one picture than you can in a text with only words.
  • If you are looking for a short-term sale, then sending short code is probably for you, but if you are interested in building long-term business relationships, then Fix Your Funnel’s method will stand out above the standard approach.
  • Use an MMS to capture attention and to entice conversation.
  • If you want to educate via a text, use a video to get attention and couple the text with a trackable link to a video, mobile survey, or podcast episode.
  • If you are interested in the long play you want to get people’s attention, but not necessary to make a purchase right away.
  • Your message should help people understand why you do what you do and what you bring to the marketplace, then the decision to buy will be a natural consequence.
  • Text message is for getting a conversation going and to distribute information that will help people to make decisions. It should not be used primarily for a call to action.
  • Send your text with a picture and at only a penny more, you will quickly get people’s attention and be able to deliver a significant amount of content all at once.

[00:00:00] They say a picture is worth a thousand words. If you've been listening to me for very long, you know a big fan of texting, especially for business. But, there are some things that can make a text more effective and one of those things is being able to use a picture in the text message. So picture really is worth a thousand words and if we stand a text with a picture, it becomes what's known as an MMS or multimedia message service. At that point, we can also send 10 times the content. Not only is it worth a thousand words, it's also worth 1600 characters and only at a penny more for cost.

If you're using text messages already in your business, I'm going to get into this more in the next episode, but you want to keep it conversational. You want to be enticing a conversation, not promoting a product or service. I know this grunts totally in the face of everything that's been said and done by other people [00:01:00] about text messaging in marketing, but I'm going to tell you, I'm not like other people. My approach isn't the same as them and it generates a different type of result. The type of result I'm always going for is deeper, not short-term.

If you're looking for short-term bumps, then I really recommend you use other services. Probably look for a short code because that's what that's all about, sending out a bunch of messages asking people to spend money with you instead of trying to build relationships.

However, if you're in it for the long haul, if you're trying to build a business that has depth and length, longevity, then you're going to want to listen to what I'm saying. Use an MMS to be able to capture attention and to entice conversation. If you do want to give education through a text message, a video is a great way to get attention, and then you want to couple that text with a trackable link to a video, mobile survey, or podcast episode. That's the way, and again, this goes back to our episode about the [00:02:00] long play. You really want to be going long. Then you want to make sure you get people's attention and deliver your message, but not necessarily trying to get them to buy things.

Get them to understand why you're doing what you do, what you bring to the marketplace, and the decision to buy will be a natural consequence. Yes, you will invite them to buy at some point, but don't do it via text message. Text message is for getting a conversation going, distributing information that will help people make decisions, not necessarily for a call to action. So when you're sending text messages, final word is, send it with a picture. You'll get more attention. It's only a penny more, you can send more text, and that's the way I do it. This is Ryan Chapman with Fix Your Funnel. Hope this helps you today.
