Get More Customer Referrals

Show Notes

  • Get the cell phone number of a current customer who has the potential of sending you a referral.
  • Send an MMS with a vcard (contact record from your address book on your mobile phone) attached to your customer.
  • Send a link to video embedded on your blog page.
  • In the video, thank the person for being a customer and tailor the message to particular classifications of customers or create one generic video for all of your customers.
  • In the video, let your customers know that if they ever meet someone who could potentially do business with you, to share your contact information with them.
  • Also, teach them how to add your vcard to their contact list in the video and then they can easily share it with others.
  • Use your photo or logo with your vcard so that when you contact the person, they will be more likely to respond as they will know who you are.
  • Include your website address in your vcard and use the link to lead them directly to a call to action page.

[00:00:00] Are you in a business that really requires referrals or that survives based on referrals? If you are, then you need some mechanisms to be able to facilitate referrals. Thanks to my buddy Levi, who used to run a company called Mobivity, he gave me this idea for using text messages to train customers to give referrals. So this is a great approach. If you are in that scenario where you need referrals, then you're going to want to get out a pen and paper and take some good notes.

The first key is you get the phone number of your customer who's going to be sending you referrals. And when I say phone number, I mean their cell phone number. You're going to send an MMS with a vCard attached and a link to a video embedded on your blog page. So again, you're going to send an MMS with a vCard attached, a vCard is that contact record from your address book on your mobile phone. That's a vCard. And if you've ever texted that to [00:01:00] somebody before, maybe you imessaged it if you use an iPhone, where you're sharing a contact that's a vCard that's being used to share that contact information.

So you're going to send an MMS with a vCard and a link to a video embedded on your blog page. In this video, you're going to thank them for being a customer. You can tailor the message based on your specific relationship with the classification of people and switch up your video based on that, or you can do one generic video for all of your customers. You let them know if they ever meet someone who should be doing business with you, and you can again, tailor your message to match your your audience. But if they ever run into anybody that should be doing business with you, they can share your contact information that you just texted them with them. So tell them how to add that vCard into their address book and let them know that when they find something that needs it, they can share your contact with them.

Your vCard can have your image for better [00:02:00] recognition when you call as well, so if you get your vCard into your customers address book by showing them how to do that with this video, then when you call they're also going to see your mug or your logo when you call. That's going to help with recognition and make sure that they answer. Additionally, you can have a link to your call to action page in the notes or as your website URL. So in your contact record in the vCard that you share with people, you can have your website address. I would use a web address that would send people directly to a call to action page, a page that tells somebody about how they can start getting more information from you or initiate the relationship with you. This will help also to make it easier for people to give referrals.

So, if you're in the business that relies upon referrals, make sure you have a mechanism like this in place, especially if you're using something like Infusionsoft, to be able to automate that process so that you can quickly and easily get referrals from your customers.
